Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stood up for LGBT rights in front of his coalition colleagues. This is written by the American edition of Politico.
The newspaper notes that the Israeli Prime minister's party members advocate the adoption of laws discriminating against LGBT persons. Netanyahu promised that the new government would not infringe on the rights of representatives of sexual minorities.
Israeli parliament member, Zionist and Netanyahu's colleague in the Likud party, Orit Struk, said yesterday that "while there are still enough doctors to help patients," health workers should have the right to refuse LGBT representatives treatment.
Simcha Rotman, another of Netanyahu's fellow party members, believes that entrepreneurs, such as hotel owners, should also have the right to refuse service to LGBT people "if it harms their religious feelings."
Netanyahu, in turn, said that such rhetoric is not acceptable for him and other Likud members, and the country's parliament "will not allow discrimination against LGBT people or infringement of their rights to provide services, which is relevant for all citizens of Israel."
Earlier, Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov criticized the requirements for Oscar-nominated films about the presence of minority representatives in the film crew, including from different races and the LGBT community. According to the director, such a requirement contradicts traditional values.
